At seven years of age, my father took me pony riding as a gift for my birthday. Immediately there was a connection with the pony, and an interest and passion for horses developed within me. One year later, I attended a week long camp that included horsemanship and trail riding as part of the outdoor curriculum. “Flash” was the name of the first pony I rode. He took great care to insure that I stayed on board even though my lack of riding skills should have landed me in the dust. In retrospect that patient little horse had taken care of many other awkward kids like me in the past. Never the less camp was a magical place and I couldn’t wait to return each year.
At 50 years of age, I was able to achieve my most heartfelt ambition: a horse of my own. After a lifetime of watching the iconic western movies, listening to one-of–a-kind music, going to the rodeo, vacationing and trail riding, and even wearing the western garb, for me all of these things and more have coalesced into fulfilling a dream of not only owning a horse, but developing R&M stables.
I owe my riding career to that first pony, and ponies remain a passion. My desire is to create a unique summer camp atmosphere where children of all ages can come and experience an introduction to horsemanship and the multitude of entry points it affords into the amazing equine world. My story is an ordinary one; it happens all over the country on a regular basis when young people have that first encounter with a pony at pony camp! Come and join us this summer for an incredible adventure. You never know where this journey might take you!
